Swimming in Patmos
Patmos is the sacred island of the Dodecanese, where St. John wrote the Book of Revelation. Beyond its spiritual heritage, the island offers intimate beaches tucked into a deeply indented coastline that creates natural shelter from most wind directions.
The island's irregular shape — almost splitting into two halves connected by a narrow isthmus — means beaches face every direction. This geographic quirk is a swimmer's advantage: whatever the wind, at least one coast will be calm.
Swimming is best from June to September. Patmos's beaches are smaller and more intimate than those on larger Dodecanese islands, with a contemplative atmosphere that matches the island's spiritual character.
Swimming season: June to September
