Swimming in Kalymnos
Kalymnos is famous worldwide as a rock-climbing destination, and its dramatic limestone cliffs continue into the sea as sheltered coves and clear-water swimming spots. The island's mountainous terrain creates effective wind shadows along much of the coastline.
Positioned in the central Dodecanese, Kalymnos receives moderate wind exposure. The island's western coast, facing tiny Telendos island across a narrow strait, is particularly well sheltered. The east coast is more exposed but offers dramatic scenery.
Swimming is best from June to September. Kalymnos suits active visitors who want to combine climbing or hiking with beach time — the dramatic landscape doesn't stop at the waterline.
Swimming season: June to September
