Safety Warning
Swimming in the sea carries real risks, including drowning, injury, and death. AegeanSwim is an informational planning tool only. It does not guarantee your safety, and it is not a substitute for lifeguards, official warnings, or your own judgement on-site.
1. What this service is
AegeanSwim provides beach recommendations based on real-time weather forecasts (Open-Meteo), marine wave data, and geographical shelter analysis. It is informational and intended as a planning tool. It is not:
- A substitute for lifeguards or professional safety services
- A guarantee of safe swimming conditions
- Real-time, on-site condition monitoring
- An official or certified weather forecast
2. Assumption of risk
By using AegeanSwim, you acknowledge that:
- Sea swimming carries inherent risks — currents, waves, marine life, and other hazards that can be life-threatening
- Weather and sea conditions can change rapidly and without warning, and forecasts may be inaccurate, delayed, or incomplete
- You are solely responsible for assessing actual on-site conditions and making your own safety decisions
- This service provides no real-time monitoring, alerts, or supervision
3. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law: AegeanSwim, its creator, and any contributors are not liable for injuries, deaths, accidents, losses, or damages arising from use of this service, including but not limited to drowning, injury from waves or currents, or any other harm. The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, accurate, or error-free. Some jurisdictions do not permit the exclusion of liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence; nothing here is intended to exclude liability where it cannot lawfully be excluded.
4. Third-party & beach data
Weather and marine data is supplied by Open-Meteo and other third-party sources; we don’t control its accuracy and can’t guarantee continuous access to it. Beach information (location, orientation, protection ratings) is compiled from general geographical analysis, not professional on-site surveying, and may not reflect current conditions, construction, or other changes.
5. Before you swim
- Check current conditions in person, and look for and obey posted warnings or flags
- Follow lifeguard instructions where present
- Never swim alone, and tell someone your plans
- Know your limits, and exit the water if conditions deteriorate
- Parents/guardians are solely responsible for supervising children near water at all times
See our full safety guide for more detail on reading conditions and the Beaufort scale.

7. Donations
Donations are voluntary and non-refundable. They don’t create any contractual obligation, guarantee service availability, or change the assumption of risk or liability limits above.
8. Service availability
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time, and may update these terms without prior notice. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated terms.

In short
AegeanSwim helps you find sheltered water — it doesn’t replace your own eyes, local knowledge, or good judgement. When in doubt, don’t go out.
