What is AegeanSwim?
AegeanSwim helps you find the best beach to swim today, across 235 beaches on 53 Greek islands in the Aegean Sea. Instead of guessing which coast the wind will hit, we do the analysis for you and point you toward calmer water.
How it works
We combine real-time wind and wave data with each beach’s natural shelter — its orientation, and nearby cliffs, bays, and headlands — to work out which beaches are sheltered right now. It’s a conditions guide, not a safety guarantee: always check the water yourself before swimming.
The Meltemi
The Meltemi is the Aegean’s signature summer wind — strong, dry, and northerly, blowing hardest from June through September. It’s why a beach can be perfectly calm in the morning and choppy by afternoon, and why the same island can have both rough and sheltered beaches on the same windy day.
