Swimming in Telendos
Telendos is a tiny island just 800 metres from Kalymnos, accessible by a five-minute boat ride. It was once connected to Kalymnos until an earthquake separated them in 554 AD, and today it's a car-free retreat with a handful of pebble beaches and remarkable underwater archaeology.
The narrow strait between Telendos and Kalymnos creates a wind tunnel effect, but the island's beaches face away from the prevailing wind direction, offering calm swimming conditions. The west coast catches sunset light and is particularly pleasant for evening swims.
Swimming season runs from June to September. Telendos is the ultimate escape within an escape — take the water taxi from Kalymnos, swim in crystal waters, eat grilled fish, and boat back as the sun sets behind the island's dramatic silhouette.
