Swimming in Milos
Milos is a geological wonderland — volcanic rock formations, sea caves, and over 70 beaches crammed into a small island. Its horseshoe-shaped bay creates a naturally sheltered harbour, and the island's varied coastline means there's always somewhere calm to swim regardless of wind direction.
The famous moonscape of Sarakiniko on the north coast gets moderate Meltemi exposure, but the rock formations create sheltered pockets for swimming. The south coast — Tsigrado, Firopotamos — offers excellent Meltemi protection, though some beaches require adventurous access (Tsigrado famously involves a rope ladder).
Swimming season runs from May to October. Milos rewards explorers: its beaches range from sandy to rocky to volcanic, each with a unique character. The waters around the island are exceptionally clear thanks to the volcanic seabed.
