Swimming in Folegandros
Folegandros is a small, cliff-edged island between Milos and Sikinos, with a coastline that alternates between sheer drops and hidden pebble coves. The Chora sits dramatically atop the cliffs, and the beaches below are accessed by steep paths that keep them naturally uncrowded.
Meltemi exposure depends heavily on which side of the island you're on. The south-facing beaches benefit from the island's ridge as a windbreak, while the north coast is exposed and dramatic but not ideal for swimming during the windiest months.
Swimming is best from June to September. Folegandros is for those who prefer authenticity over convenience — the beaches here aren't the easiest to reach, but they reward you with some of the clearest water in the Aegean.
