Swimming in Iraklia
Iraklia is the quietest of the Small Cyclades, a speck of an island between Naxos and Ios with dirt roads, no ATM, and beaches that feel like they belong to another era. Its south coast offers protected swimming in small bays with remarkably clear water.
Meltemi winds reach Iraklia but without the force they carry through the main Cycladic straits. The island's beaches are small and intimate, with natural rock formations providing additional shelter from whatever wind does arrive.
Swimming is best from June to September. Iraklia is for genuine escapists — bring cash, bring a book, and prepare to lose track of which day it is.
Swimming season: June to September
