Swimming in Rhodes
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands and one of the sunniest places in Europe, with over 300 days of sun per year. Its substantial size creates diverse coastal conditions — the east coast is generally calmer, sheltered from prevailing westerly winds, while the west coast offers more dramatic surf.
Unlike the Cyclades, Rhodes doesn't sit in the main Meltemi corridor. The island gets its own wind patterns, with the west coast catching Aegean breezes and the east coast remaining remarkably sheltered. This makes Rhodes one of the most reliable swimming destinations in the Greek islands throughout the summer.
